Beating the odds!

The Superbowl is over and what a game it was!  My husband, being a Patriot’s fan, was beginning to lose heart. The Falcons were crushing the Patriots, making it nearly impossible for them to recover, or even win.  Nevertheless, a most extraordinary game unfolded!  For the first time in Superbowl history it went into Overtime.  With baited breath my husband and I watched as the Patriots dug deep, and with focus and determination overcame the impossible.  We were astounded!

The Patriots had one goal in mind,  they wanted the victory.  Nothing was going to get them down. They were gonna fight hard, and fight to win. Inch by inch, line by line they got closer to their goal, and created a big upset for the opposing team.  It was incredible to watch.

In a similar way, those of us who are trying to lose weight, eat healthy and get fit, have setbacks that can throw us in a downward spiral.  Feeling defeated, they can stop us in our tracks and self-doubt can hold us back.  The task before us seems impossible to overcome and for many of us we give up.

Watching the Superbowl was encouraging, and there are valuable takeaways that can help us on our journey.

  1. When the mountain seems impossible, don’t give up, victory is just around the corner.
  2. Stay focused, keep your eye on the goal and run for it.
  3. Be determined! Fight hard, fight to win.
  4. Overcome ~ don’t let despair, self-doubt, or defeat get you down.  Remind yourself you can overcome.
  5. Take little steps ~ set small goals, win small victories, and the bigger goal will be within your grasp.

Today, as you bask in the epic game, bask in the victory that is within your reach!  Stay healthy, keep fit, and keep glowing!

Finding sanctuary!

our backyard 2015

“There’s no place like home”

Those words are familiar to those of us who enjoyed watching the Wizard of Oz as kids.   Dorothy was so desperate to get back home.  A place of refuge, familiarity, love and comfort.  It’s true, there is no place like home!

As I strolled out onto my deck last night I was thankful to be home.  To have a little sanctuary in the back yard where I could relax, and escape the demands of life for just a little while.

As I sat in the swing and gazed across the yard at my cedar trees I felt the tension slowly fading and I was able to relax.  Those trees are special; they were seedlings from the cottage.  At the time my husband and I wanted to bring a little cottage life into our back yard. There is history with those trees.  They represent wonderfully good times with family and friends as we vacationed together every summer.  My husband joined in on the fun when we started dating.

The trees are strong, and robust they give privacy and a place for birds to build their nests.  But more importantly, they have created a sanctuary from the world where we can unwind and rest.

Living a healthy lifestyle includes mental/emotional/spiritual health and physical rest.  When we are tense, stressed, angry or overtired it affects what we eat, how we act, and wreaks havoc on our bodies over time.  I have been so caught up in doing for others lately that I have forgotten to find sanctuary where my mind, body and soul can truly relax.

My sanctuary has been here all along.  I just forgot in the busyness to enjoy it.  This Summer as you are vacationing, or hanging out with friends and family remember to take time out for yourself, alone.  To find sanctuary and unwind.  The beauty of nature all around us can give us the sanctuary we so need.

Be blessed this summer, and enjoy your little sanctuary.

Happy Family Day!

FAMILY

Family is,
heaven sent from our father above,
bonded by the power of love.
No matter what family has each others back,
when push comes to shove.

Family is,
understanding, never demanding,
all for one and one for all,
I will never leave you alone standing.

Family is,
one in itself, my love is your love,
your pain is my pain, my wealth is your wealth,
I promise to never leave you by yourself.

Family is,
the strongest team, the strongest unit;
if love could be visualized,
family would be the blue print.

Family is,
forgiveness and patience,
it’s sweeter than the sweetest fragrance,
the power of family is a reflection of Gods compassion and magnificence.

Family is,
never turning our back, and never shames,
lend my helping hand and not a finger pointing the blame.

No matter what a family bond can never be broken,
even through a nuclear explosion,
if one of us lives we all live.
Forever to eternity, we are family.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine Food For Thought
Cabbage always has a heart; Green beans string along.
You’re such a cute tomato, Will you peas to me belong?
You’ve been the apple of my eye, You know how much I care;
So lettuce get together, We’d make a perfect pear.

Now, something’s sure to turnip to prove you can’t be beet;
So, if you carrot all for me let’s let our tulips meet.
Don’t squash my hopes and dreams now, Bee my honey, dear;
Or tears will fill potato’s eyes, While sweet corn lends an ear.

I’ll cauliflower shop and say, Your dreams are parsley mine.
I’ll work and share my celery, So be my valentine.

Add a Splash of Red!

Everyone knows that February is known for the month of love, but for some it can be a month of feeling blue!

The lack of light and long winter days can make it harder to maintain a consistent mood and energy.

I want to remain optimistic, joyful, and upbeat.  Adding a splash of red might just do the trick.

Red symbolizes love, desire, passion, excitement, but it also symbolizes energy, determination, courage, and boldness. Red is empowering, it’s an attention getter.  It’s fiery!  It is often where the eye looks first. It is the symbol of life.

So, if you’re feeling a little low and need a pick me up, go ahead, spice up your life with a little red!  When you do you may feel:

Rejuvenated!

Energized!

Determined!

Paint your nails red, add vibrant red lipstick to your lips. Accent your outfit with a red tie, scarf, gloves or hat.  Pull out some red pumps, or runners.  Some red jewellery or a red purse.  Leave the black dress in the closet, and inspire yourself with a new red one! The world of red is your oyster, think of some other fun items you can add to your wardrobe.
